More Than a Spell: How I Work with Ritual Energy
What exactly is a spell? What’s a ritual? And how do I do them?
Well… here’s how I see it, from one practicing witch (me) to you.
A spell is an action you take (simple or elaborate) that’s meant to bring something into your life. That’s it. Whether it’s a whisper to the wind or a candle burning under the full moon, a spell is about intent backed with energy.
A ritual is like a spell’s bigger, older sibling. Same goal (manifesting change) but with a bit more sacred structure. For me, that might mean casting a circle, calling in the elements or my guides, raising energy through chanting or dance, and then releasing that energy into the universe like a cosmic arrow.
Sometimes my rituals are deeply spiritual, involving prayer or offerings. Sometimes they’re silent and fierce. Either way, I always close with gratitude and dismissal, thanking the energies that showed up and releasing them with love.
Now, whether you call it a spell or a ritual… I’m gonna be real: don’t get caught up in labels. Words don’t hold the power; you do. Magick is magick. Period.
Cleansing Before Casting
Before I start any spellwork, I cleanse my space. Always. It’s like clearing the chalkboard before writing your manifestation masterpiece.
You can:
- Ring a bell or clap your hands to shake off heavy vibes.
- Burn herbs like frankincense, cedarwood, or dragon’s blood (if you’re smoke-sensitive, or have pets, go with sprays or sound instead).
- Sprinkle saltwater or moonwater.
- Or simply breathe with intention. Yes, your breath is magickal too.
Spells can be so simple. Carve your intention into a candle: sigils, symbols, little drawings that mean something to you. Want love? Pink candle with hearts. Want abundance? Green candle with coins or currency signs. Light it. Sit with it. Feel what you’re calling in like it’s already yours.
Or, take a bath. Yep. Throw in herbs, crystals, oils, and music, or don’t. You can even enchant your morning shower to wash away your stress. It’s all valid.
Short on time or tools? Grab a charm bag. Or don’t. Enchant your jewelry. Whisper a spell into your boots. Pour your anxiety into a stone and carry it like armor.
Every cup of coffee? A potion. Stir counterclockwise to banish, clockwise to attract. Boom… spellwork while caffeinating. ☕🔥
The Real Secret?
Your belief. Your energy. Your intention.
You don’t need a dozen herbs or a moon phase app to be powerful. Your words, your thoughts, your feelings, they are the tools.
You can sit with a pendant and whisper, “This will calm my heart and give me courage.” Then wear it like the talisman it’s become. That’s spellwork ♥
In conclusion…
Modern witches like us? We’re doing magick all day long. We enchant our boots, our tea, our jewelry, our damn shampoo. Not everything needs to be cauldron-and-candle dramatic.
Magick is all around us, and you are your own altar.
So don’t overthink it, just feel it, believe it, and do it your way.
Blessed be,
Scarlet🌙🖤
