37 Great Things About Turning 37
In celebration of 37 years around the sun, here are 37 things I’ve learned and want to share with you:
1. Live a healthy lifestyle.
It’s true, your metabolism slows down as you get older. (Mine basically went on a permanent vacation after I turned 30!) The choices you make, what you eat, and whether you move your body really do make a difference.
2. Your definition of love evolves.
That fiery beginning is great, but if there’s nothing to sustain it, the fire goes out. Find someone you enjoy being with. Someone you can laugh with, cry with, and grow beside.
3. Blood doesn’t define family – love does.
Families can be torn apart by greed, jealousy, or unresolved pain. Real family shows up, loves you through your mess, and sticks around. Return the favor.
4. You’re old enough to remember when life was harder, and young enough to know the “good old days” weren’t that good.
Two words: dial-up internet.
5. Friendships change.
People come and go – marriage, divorce, kids, moves, jobs. Some friends stay for a season, others for life.
6. Learn how to manage money while you’re young.
Money is a tool. Once you learn to use it, instead of being controlled by it, everything gets easier.
7. Your brain finally finishes developing in your 30s.
This explains your 20s. Forgive yourself.
8. Take the damn vacation.
Don’t wait until you’re older or richer or “ready.” Travel now. Pay cash if you can. Make memories.
9. Stop worrying about what others think.
Live your life. Be kind. Do your best. Let the rest go.
10. Learn to say sorry.
It doesn’t make you weak – it makes you wise.
11. Find a career you love.
You’ll be doing it for decades. Don’t settle.
12. Take chances.
Safe is comfortable, but bold builds character. Go after what sets your soul on fire.
13. Practice self-care.
No one’s coming to save you. Take care of yourself. You’re worth the effort.
14. Silver hair is en vogue.
I’m rocking my roots like they’re designer threads. Because they are.
15. You’re not too old to change.
At 20, I thought 37 was ancient. Spoiler alert: it’s not.
16. Surround yourself with people who lift you.
Energy doesn’t lie. Protect yours.
17. Be the mentor you needed.
Someone out there needs your story. Be generous with it.
18. Learn to cook at home.
It’s cheaper, healthier, and can be damn satisfying.
19. Write down your goals.
Written goals are more likely to happen. Magic and accountability combined.
20. Read more than you watch TV.
Words sharpen your mind. Netflix doesn’t.
21. Pay off your credit cards.
Debt strangles dreams. Breathe free.
22. Pay yourself first.
Set up that emergency fund and protect your peace.
23. Learn to say no — even to yourself.
You might “deserve it,” but if you can’t afford it, wait. You’ll thank yourself later.
24. Leg hair loses its grip.
In my 20s, I was a fuzzy little gorilla. Now it’s soft, sparse, and optional. Nad’s strips or not – I do what I want. Because DGAF at 37 is a vibe.
25. Practice gratitude.
Say thank you. Mean it. Write it down. It changes your life.
26. Give back.
Someone helped you. Now it’s your turn.
27. Some people are users.
Let them go. Love those who love you back.
28. Know your priorities.
Time is precious. Spend it wisely.
29. You can give everything to someone and still get hurt.
Love has no guarantees. It’s not always your fault.
30. Be trustworthy.
Gossip is cheap. Integrity is rare. Choose wisely.
31. Learn self-discipline.
It’s not sexy, but it’ll get you further than talent or luck.
32. Be yourself.
You’re not a copy. You’re a cosmic original. Shine.
33. Smile.
It’s free, and sometimes it’s all you’ve got. Use it.
34. Less stuff = less stress.
Declutter your home, and your mind will follow.
35. You’ve accepted your slow metabolism.
It’s not getting faster. But you’ve learned to work with it.
36. Sex is better.
You know your body. You know what you want. Confidence is a powerful aphrodisiac.
37. Let go and have fun.
You don’t need permission. Life is short. Laugh louder. Love harder. Dance messier.
So cheers to me, 37 and still fabulous.
I’ll be celebrating tonight like I’ve earned every damn candle on the cake. And yes, that may include drinking until I can no more. 🍷
Lots of love,
Scarlet
